Hello there! I have asked this question several times but to no avail. I have an AMD FX-6300 overclocked to 4.2GHz. When I'm playing Battlefield 4, I get FPS drops into the low 30's/high 20's - This is unacceptable and I want to know why it's doing this.

The task manager only reports a maximum of around 60% CPU usage when playing on a full 64 player server, why isn't it using more?

I don't think I'm being held back by my graphics, I have a £300 AMD Radeon R9 290.

I am running the AMD 13.30 drivers, please don't tell me to install "Mantle" with the 14.1 drivers as I already tried that and it resulted in system lockups and loading screen freezing.

System Specs:

AMD FX-6300 @4.2GHz
8GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1600MHz
Powercolor AMD Radeon R9 290
Corsair CX750M
Antec GX700
Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit
2x 500GB Western Digital SATA hard drives.

Battlefield 4 is installed the 64bit folder. Graphics settings are at the Ultra preset - which I thought my relatively powerful PC should be able to handle.

Any Ideas?

Thomas :)

Thanks.

run something like openhardmonitor and play and then check the max values. if your gpu isn't hitting 100% usage and your cpu is, then your cpu could be bottlenecking you. your gpu should be maxxed at 100.

I ran Open Hardware Monitor on a 64 player Paracel Storm server.

I got the following results:

CPU

Core1=93.8%
Core2=90.6%
Core3=100%
Core4=93.8%
Core5=93.8%
Core6=89.1%

GPU

GPU Core = 100%

This is bad as it indicates my GPU is maxing out - But it's a high end gaming card - Why is this happening?

Thanks,
Thomas :)

lower the detail. What resolution are you playing in ultra?

BF4 ultra preset turns on 4x msaa.

MSAA murders performance in BF3 and BF4. Turn it off and see your fps increase by 40.

Also, are you playing at default 100% resolution scale?

I'm playing at 1920x1080. I am also playing at 100% resolution scale.

I thought my R9 290 would be able to handle Battlefield 4 on Ultra?

Thanks,
Thomas :)

The 6300 could be bottlenecking the card, it's a great processor but not as powerful as to keep up with an R9 290.

My CPU usage is 90% average, while my GPU maxes out (100%)

Shouldn't this be the other way round if I was having a bottleneck?
