I recently bought a Crucial M500 solid state drive. I Installed it in to my computer and the first thing i did was open up my boot menu for my mother board. My mother boards boot menu did recognize the ssd but when i open windows it doesn't come up as a device i can use. I am using a hdd for my main storage but i bought the ssd to put my operating system on. I am not sure if i am just installing it wrong or whatever, any suggestions of what to do would be great.

Thanks.

I am unplugging my HDD with windows and doing a fresh install of windows on the SSD. After i have windows on the ssd i am not sure what to do next. What should i do with my HDD with windows, if this all works?
Thanks.

I do have it set to AHCI for the sata ports, and it says i have the 0802 bios installed. Its seems now that i am able to boot my computer from the SSD in the bios menu, its just that i dont have windows installed on it.

How i resolved this on dell latitude e7440.

Windows 7 already installed on ssd, crucial m500 added but not shown on windows.

Solution:

Boot from Ubuntu live cd -> choose test live Ubuntu -> open gparted -> format Crucial m500 to ntfs -> apply -> reboot.
