Hey Guys,

I own a Acer 4730Z Aspire. I have had it since 2009 with no problems, lately ive noticed that if i am watching a streaming video, or anything that really taxes the processor, the fan will come on and it will get real hot underneath the display hinge where the exhaust is.

And it will even turn off by itself, when its gets hot.. I have it on a Laptop Desk...a product that allows it to sit on a hard surface that is hinged and easier to type... any suggestions?

I dont think that anything is clogging the fan or exhaust, as the fan really cranks up at times.

Should i scrap it and get another laptop or what???

thanks!

It sounds like dust has built up inside the machine over the years. Dust acts like insulation, it keeps the heat inside the machine. It also clogs up fans and makes them less efficient. The more dust that builds up the worse it will get, especially inside a laptop.

What people usually do when this happens is go out and buy a can of compressed air for cleaning keyboards from a store and blow it inside the exhaust.

but if it still happens, You might want to try opening the bottom of the machine and blow out any dust you see inside with the same compressed air.

There might even be some video tutorials online on how to do this for your specific laptop.

you probably have a virus, a reformat will fix this problem, that's what i do if i have a virus, i reformat. i don't play games with viruses. i notice that even if i remove viruses with anti virus ware, it still doesn't work. best thing to do is reformat. don't scrap it, there's a solution and that would be just a waste. just reformat.

a second solution would be that dust is clogging up the vents. and all you have to do it take it apart, 2009 is a long time for it gather up dust in the vents. i bet maybe it's clogged.

i would start by seeing if the vents are clogged by taking it apart, then doing a reformat if that's not the problem.

dude, he has to take it apart, from experience, it's better to just take it apart, you will be blowing dust INTO the machine, also, sometimes the dust collects in globs and doesn't work and eventually you have to take out the dust anyways, and that's not good. why not just take it apart and do it properly. like you said he has to take it apart somewhat anyways. that's what i use to do with my inspiron 5150. evey year i use to take out a glob of dust. made the machine last longer. plus he doesn't have to waste money on compressed air, it's really not needed.

to the original poster, it's really option if you want to take it apart. might do you good anyways. that's what i use to do with my laptop, makes the machine last longer and perform better.
