Hi, just a quick one, thinking of upgrading to the r9270x 4gb BF4 edition from my HD7770 2gb OC.

I have a OCZ Core X Stream 500w PSU, Will this be enough to power the card or am i better upgrading my PSU along with the card.

My full spec is

PSU: OCZ Core X Stream 500w
GPU: Radeon HD7770 2GB OC
CPU: AMD FX 8320 3.50 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
OS: Windows 7 64bit
MB: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M LX V2 Rev X.0x
Case: AvP Wolverine Blue MIDI Tower Inverted ATX USB3.0/2.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You OCZ Core 500w is a perfectly decent PSU and more than adequate for your CPU and R270X.

You need around 350 watts for that combo so have plenty of headroom - no idea what 71 is waffling on about.

Pros:

very very inexpensive.
useful for a low power office machine.
3 year warranty.
delivered over 500W in our tests.
quiet.

Cons:

ripple suppression is borderline.
non inspiring technical results.
weak efficiency.
non modular.
load regulation.
cables are not sleeved.

for a gaming computer its definitely on the poor end of power supplies. you can find a much better mid grade power supply that will fit your needs on a deal with rebates and stuff in the $30-40 range. that said your power supply will work fine wattage wise, and more than likely will continue to function at least for a couple years as long as your not overclocking that fx 8 core and the gpu.

but you should skip that 4gb vram model and just get a 2gb model AND buy a new power supply for the same price. your never going to need 4gb of vram with a 270x, it will run out of gpu horsepower long before it will ever cache to system ram on 2gb vram. 3gb and 4gb are for 1440p and higher resolution or poorly modded skyrim. the only reason 4gb MIGHT BE good for a 270x is if they are ran in crossfire. but amd crossfire has too many issues and even a single 290 or a 780 would beat 270x cf anyways.

Thanks for all the help.

Im in the UK and PSU seem to be abit more expensive here, i use a local shop called www.3bsystems.co.uk. Im going to save for a CORSAIR 600w which is £62 or $103 then i have breathing space for the R9270x 4gb and a possible RAM upgrade to 16gb.

Would you say this is a good plan or would you guys go about this a different way ?

p.s i am abit nervous ordering things online because i have been duped a couple of times, mainly ebay haha
and i like to have the product there and then.

Thanks again guys.
