Hello community,

I would like to ask everyone's help today.

Well I've put off doing this computer in frustration and have finally come back to it due to well, laptop gaming is just not my forte.

Anyways, I have a system which does not receive any video input but all parts are running. I've narrowed down the situation to either my PSU or my mobo, but I do not have spare parts to handle which part is causing the issue or hopefully not, both parts. Basically my situation is that the psu would be giving power to the motherboard, video card, and system fans except it seems that all the usb ports seem to not be getting any form of power whatsoever. I have run a paperclip test and the psu has been running. (I'm not sure if one of the red pins in the 24 pin power cable from the psu to the mobo is the culprit, but I have read online that those pins have shared voltages). But that would not solve the video input not being read from the computer. So I'm quite confused in regards to the situation whether if my motherboard is just out or if it is my psu itself.
I hope you guys can recommend me more solutions or if I should just give in and buy new parts of both. My apologies for a terribly written thread and hope your eyes will not bleed with the fluidity of this wall of text. (At first I thought the motherboard not being grounded was a problem, but I separated the motherboard out of the case and still the same issue of no video input, or usb response)

ah another possibility clue. did you get heat sink paste on the cpu other then on the die area when you changed the cpu fan. you will have to pull the heat sink off and look. heat sink paste could be causing a small short on the cpu. the paste should be only on the die. if its on more then just the die clean it all off and reapply a small amout look though this guide http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/thermal-paste-heat-sink-heat-spreader,3600.html it shows what it should look like if right amount is applyed
have you tried it without the video card being hooked up? does usb ports work without it anotherwords?

just wondering how did you narrow it down to just the psu or mobo?

is there any other activity like hard drive light flashing like computer is loading?

does motherboard beep at all (should have a single beep on boot)?

Yes I have, usb ports do not work before or after video card being hooked up.

I narrowed it down to the the psu or mobo by testing each individual part, also the fact that all of those parts were working until i had to replace the cpu fan and then things went bonkers. I know the video card and ram sticks and ssd still works because I was able to test them individually and no problems were found (tested on an amd rig that my brother has) so i wouldnt be able to test the mobo there.

Activity lights run but as far as I know, the asrock z77 pro 3 motherboard does not beep?
