After system failure I was able to restart computer using F9 and found the backup files the computer created in the process. i have created short cuts to the files to access them but I do not think this is best. How do I copy the files from the back up and where to I paste them. Also restart key is shaded out since all this occured,

If the file is one large file, it may be an image(and can be accessed with the same software that backed up the data in the first case.). If it is a folder and you can not access it, you may need to take ownership in the security tab.

I would still check out the system makers website to get any needed drivers as other devices or sometimes unknown devices is just a way to show you that windows does not actually know what the device is so it can be anything from a card reader to a sound card.
So you are just accessing personal files or programs?

For personal files you can copy them to c : \ users \ your login \ documents(or what ever folder they come from)

Programs are best to be reinstalled if you can.

Having restart greyed out is strange. I can see sleep like that if you do not have all your drivers installed.

Does the device manager(Start + R and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter) show anything with ! or ?'s?

Was this all after system restore or some kind of factory restore?

Yes this all occured after system failure and restore. In the device manager the other devices item is the only one with a ?. I am still unclear on how to accomplish copying the backup files. It is located in C:\My Backup -15-02-14 2011 It is a large folder I can open containing folder. I have sent several items to the desktop so I can access word files but when I click on them it is still going through My Backup. Thanks for your help so far
