I am completely new to building and need some help choosing ram. It sounds like the ram has #'s that are very important! Below are the parts I currently have. My main goal is to play DayZ Standalone and some other games like Alan Wake etc.. i'd like to stay under $75 for 2 4gb stix, but theres so many to choose from.
ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED!
Also my neighbor has 1 8gb stick of RAM he wants me to buy --- 8GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) CL11 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Module --- but I keep hearing I want 2 4gb sticks to dual channel. Anyways thank you for all the help

Solution
Yep, 2x4GB give you dual channel, which can be a 10-15% increase in performance over a single stick, also Haswell likes fast DRAM, would look for 1866/9 at a minimum, might look at the GSkill Tridents, Snipers or Ripjaws X...and you definately don't want 1333/11 (very, very slow ;)

Thank You! how would this do with my Haswell? G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9S-4GBXL (if I bought?)

i found the above stick of ram by copying and pasting 1866/9 (have no clue what those numbers mean) lol

also for a game like dayz would one 4gb stick work for now? I will most likely buy both though.

Thanks Again!

Thanks again!!!

I don't know if you played or know of the game DayZ standalone, but I wanna play that game so bad (main reason for this build. I head its very CPU dependent, main reason i got the 4670k processor. I dont have much more for the card. and Am looking at this Sapphire HD 7770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102993 for $115 wondering if you think I can play the game without many issues with this setup, plus windows 8, maybe 7.

NEWEGG.com has a few different G. SKILL sets of RAM the following are all 2x4GB for $79.99
I still dont understand the #'s your talking about lol. Which set below is best (for haswell)

1. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL

2. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

3. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL

4. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL

ALSO They have for $5 more 4 sitcks 4x2GB (wouldnt that be even faster???)

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9Q-8GBXL

I dont plan on overclocking, even though my motherboard is good for OCing (i may in the future but for now, i dont wanna mess with overclocking unless i get real comfortable with it. So even though i have 4670k (but not planning to OC) are you saying to go with the 1866/9, and is the 1866/9 #4 in my list? I see the number 1866, but i see no 9?

Yes, and actually the 9 is there, it's in the model number next to 'CL'....while the CPU is native to 1600 it can easily handle 1866 sticks without OCing the CPU, you will simply boot up once the sticks are installed and go to BIOS, enable XMP, select profile 1 and the BIOS will set the system up for you, that's i, piece of cake....same with OCing the CPU, if and when you decide to, it's even easier, simply change the CPU multiplier to 40 and poof, you are OCed to 4GHz, nu muss no fuss. :)

everywhere i read it says its compatible with the haswells new sleep state. well a few sites list it as TBD (likely compatible)

So I actually went with this ((( G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ))). It had a promo code for $20 off. When you say native to 1600? does that mean the processor was designed for 1600/9 RAM?

Also, Thanks Again for all the time you've givin to assist me in this build! oh and do you know anything about what was said above about my CX600M 600w power supply not working with my 4670k haswell processor??? I tried to find more on it and I think it has something to do with the sleep state? the haswell goes into. The say line corsair CX750M psu is cleared to handle this processor but under the CX600M it says TBD (to be determined). I would think it would still work just fine, but idk.

Thank You!!!
