I never get above 59.9 FPS while gaming?

I've had my gaming laptop for a while now, and while gaming, I never seem to go over 59.9 FPS, it will drop down below that but never go over. This even happens while playing older games like World at War and Left 4 Dead. I have a Lenovo Y510P with dual GT750M's, 8 GB RAM, i7 4700MQ processor and a 60HZ panel.
I primarily play games in SLI and even with graphics turned way down low. games still cap out at 59.9 FPS. I have tried turning VSYNC to adaptive and using the e Nvidia inspector, but nothing seems to work. How can I fix this so I can get over 60 FPS in games that my machine can easily handle?

I also sometimes encounter microstuttering, if that has anything do with it.

Solution

Well that's why VSync limits you to 60 FPS. That's the maximum that your screen is able to display. If the screen receives more than 60 FPS, you will probably have tearing.

Oh right, so I did that and it works. However, with vsync turned on, I get microstuttering, and when set to adaptive it takes away the microstuttering but caps my fps. So now what?

What is your laptop screen's refresh rate?

Just to clarify what this does, adaptive vsync will cap you at 60fps but allow your framerate to be variable if it drops below that so as to prevent stuttering.

So I just won't get above 60 FPS then?

Your screen probably isn't capable of showing more than 60 FPS anyways.
