no desktop just black. no tools or start or shutdown buttons?
can't go to control panel either. everything just black, but I can still get on computer thru my screensaver. help please! Thanks!

Try Ctrl+Shift+Esc, if task manager comes up, go to the applications tab and click "New Task..."; now type in Explorer.exe
Hopefully this works for you, assuming the computer is functioning and has no desktop.
