AMD future CPU's

I'm thinking about upgrading my rig. I currently have an older i5 2550k. I would like to go to an AMD opteron, but want to stay closer to a desktop setup and the only thing out there for the new 6300 opteron's seems to be server boards.

The best choice I think there is at this time is something like an ivybridge E that can use 4 channel memory bus with an ATX style MB.

Does anyone have any insight into if AMD is making anything to compete in this product range that would offer 4 channel DRAM in a PC/workstation setting?

Thanks for the answer...and that's too bad I suppose.

The problem I'm having is that I like to game a lot during the night and am kind of a computer hobbyist (hack), but during the day I run my own business as a mechanical engineer. I use a modeling package called solid edge from seimens for the most part and also some adobe apps. My setup that seemed to work ok with my software was the i5 and a GTX560Ti-448 with 8GB of memory running at 2133. I have been doing more surface modeling and there are features within the software to do dynamic editing of splines and guides which will change the surface shape on the fly. The response on this is pretty slow, almost to the point of using the dynamic portion is not worthwhile...but I feel with faster computational response to the curve changes using this feature would be advantagous. I have upgraded (if you can call it that) my graphics to an AMD firepro W7000. It should be more than capable of handling the graphics portion. I have also installed another 8GB of identical memory. I really miss my old 560 card, as I think it was a much stronger performer over all, but not for the application...and that's what makes the money. I overclock to around 4.5k, but feel that opening up the memory bandwidth would be a greater benefit than just going with a newer processor (like a 4770k). That's why I was interested in the IV-E versions. Short of building a separate system for my CAD work, does that sound like I'm on the right track...or does anyone have any better suggestions. I just finished a nice job and have a little change to upgrade with right now, but I still don't want to invest in a poor decision.

PS - Also, the HT and the memory bus seem to be pretty nice on the opteron, but I also read that AMD hardware works better when matched to AMD rather than AMD intel.

Thanks again. I do have 16GB now. I don't mind upgrading to a X79 MB. Do you think going with something like this:

Intel Core i7-4820K Ivy Bridge-E 3.7GHz (Turbo 3.9GHz) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80633i74820K
ASUS Rampage IV Gene LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

would be a significant performance boost on my application over just adding a xeon? I think I'm the only person that isn't a big fan of Asus, but they seem to have some decent x79 boards.

Thanks again for your answers.

I would only select the LGA2011 socket over LGA1150 or 1155 if I was going with a 6core like the 4930K, otherwise I would save my money and stick with the lower end sockets. Then again you could upgrade to the 6 core later which is the best desktop CPU for your uses.
