From my understanding these 2 sound exactly the same. Is there a difference between the boot sector and the boot loader? Thanks.

Solution
No. The boot sector is the physical location on the disk that holds code that is loaded into memory when the machine is first powered on. The boot loader is the code that when run loads the OS.
