If there was no budget involved what are the top five Intel LGA 775 processors in order, please? Also, how would it do in modern gaming paired with an Asus HD 7770 2gb? All advice/help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
PS: I'm asking these questions because I plan on upgrading my computer for gaming.

there wouldnt be any difference in framer rates between that cpu and an lga 1150 or 2011 cpu with such a low end gpu on most games. because most games are gpu bound not cpu bound. that gpu wouldnt trouble either as far as bottlencking goes it would have to be much stronger and then your talking 770 or R9280 and higher.
to be honest though only a fool would buy such an old cpu. you would likely plug it in and find after a few weeks your caps on the motherboard have swollen due to age and increased stress.
you can buy a i3 quad threading cpu 4 gigs of ram and a cheap motherboard for less than 300 so spending 270+ on that quad would make no sence today...

Yeah buying a recent i3 with a decent motherboard is going to be better than buying a top end Core 2 Quad

If money isn't an issue go ahead and drop $700 on a core 2 extreme.

but for that much money you could build a new system entirely.

Your video card is fine so there's no need to upgrade it:
