MSI Gaming Edition GTXN760 2gb MSI Afterburner Boost Clocks Not Allowing overclock???

Hi im new here my question is why is msi afterburner after i put in the settings not keeping an overclock of 1280 Boost and wont stay at a constant clock??? The only way iv been able to get it to 1280 core clock speed is while testing in Kombustor and it shows it getting 1280 but once i close Kombuster it goes back to default clock speeds... I have tried using all the msi afterburner versions i can find from 3.0.0 Beta 5 ~ Beta 18... iv also tried using the msi afterburner that came on the driver disc for my MSI gaming edition gtxN760. The msi gaming app only gets me an overclock of 1202 on core clock and keeps it at 1202... I play bf4 with 1202core clock and 965be oc to 4.0ghz i will see fps of 45-85 fps but on some maps i only get a peek of fps at 35-65 i have latest nvidia driver official driver release 334.89. If i overclock it to 1280 core clock i get 60fps~150fps constantly above 60+fps :( as i managed to do once after running msi Kombustor and it glitched out msi afterburner and held the core clock speed at 1280 constant....>? iv tried replicating it restarting pc then fresh install msi afterburner with no luck of similar resualts.When i did have it at 1280 before restarting my pc like an idiot -_- it only reached 50c when overclocked where i want it. Thanks for any advice in advanced i really dont wanna go back to bf4 now that iv experience playable frame rates and getting 58-18 scores :(

This is completely normal, and as far as I know, and unavoidable feature on the new Nvidia Cards. Basically the way overclocking works now is that the card controls its own clock speeds and voltage on the fly depending on power consumption/TDP and temperatures. When you "overclock" with MSI afterburner, you are setting the maximum limits that you want your card to achieve. Under load, the card will boost up its clocks and voltage as high as it can within the clock/voltage you specify in msi afterburner.
To conserve power and lower temperature, the card automatically downclocks itself when not under load.

So in a short answer, you are overclocking correctly. The card is designed to do this.

Well i just came back from a bf4 match and was at the top of the scoreboard but it seems to not be working right the settings i just tried was 1220 boost clock however when i play the game gpu-z gives me 1280 for max sensor reading on the core clock... when i do this its like the game lags and it shouldnt be that far of an overclock am i wrong ? Otherwise thanks for trying to help me... i guess im going to just stick with the lower clock speeds giving me lower fps yet is the most stable at a constant clock reading of 1202 :/ i.e im done playing bf4 cuz i dont get enough fps even with 4ghz oc cpu at good temps of 53C when gaming and 8gb ddr3 1600 memory 120gb ssd... motherboard is GA-770T-USB3
