Hi guys. I need help urgently with my laptop as I've got 3 large Office units to complete in 10 days before my course ends.
I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista Home Premium SP2. It's got an Intel Centrino 2 (Core Duo 2.13GHz each) and 4GB of RAM.
Up until the last 24hrs I've not had any problems with it and memory-wise it handles Photoshop easily. But in the last 24hrs when I really need it most, something had started clogging up the memory. I've been through the startup options and turned off anything I recognise as safe to turn off and deleted all programs that I don't need anymore. I'm using Word for my current unit and yesterday it lagged so badly that the page would overlap when scrolling and commands take around 3secs before acknowledging. I've cleaned the column, defragged even though it said it didn't need it, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Office. All was going fine til I just inserted a graphic and here we go again!
CPU usage in Task Manager keeps flying up to 50% and down and then back up. And despite doing nothing, the physical memory usage is at 47%. On the Resource Monitor under Memory, it is showing up to 12 Hard Faults per second. I don't know what they are but it doesn't sound good.
I don't know what's going on but I need HELP URGENTLY PLEASE!!
Cheers :-)

Hi guys. I think I've fixed the problem. I'll post what I did just in case anyone else does a search for the same thing.
So I did what I guess is the most obvious thing. I backed everything up to an external drive and then did a factory reinstall before restoring my data again. I reinstalled Office again for the third or fourth time and this time I have all Office functionality back. Yay. I repeated the picture task that was giving me hell previously and now it's working fine. Cheers.
