I just bought 2 4gb sticks of RAM for my Toshiba Satellite a665 to upgrade. When I replace one of them my computer runs with 6gb of ram but when I replace both, it doesn't boot. If I try using only one of the new sticks it will not boot. How do I get my laptop to run with both new sticks of RAM? Any info is apreciated

Thanks,
Jason

lol what no he doesnt... you can swap out ram without affecting the o.s. and any 1 that tells you different is wrong even if its your teacher...
the only change to the o.s. will be to the windows score nothing else.

OP...
does the ram match the timings and latency of the other ram?
can the ram be run in more than 2 stick configs a lot of laptop ram cant.
how many ramslots do you have and whats the max voltage the ram is recommended to run at...
try each stick individually even the old stuff and see if the lappy boots. that means all 4 sticks you have 1 at a time with the correct speeds, timing and voltage set in bios... (set this up the first time the lappy boots and it should remain for consecutive testing.

having a hard time finding specs on RAM, There are only 2 ram slots, computer boots with the old ram, looks like the old ram voltage runs at 1.5v and the new says 1.35 (I think)

http://www.datamemorysystems.com/dm50-222/ which is the old ram, not sure if that's enough info to go off of?

Thanks,
Jason

i assume you have the old ram in slot 1 and the new in slot 2. swap them round and see if it still works.
if not its the slot not the ram. it seems theres a common fault with that model that causes compatibility with some kinds of ram.
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Satellite-Laptops-A-Series/Toshiba-Satellite-A665-S5170-Memory-Upgrade-to-8G/td-p/182128 this guy has the same issue. after trying multiple ram dims he sent the lappy back (i know its a long shot but emailing toshiba and seeing if your lappy has a 3-5 year (depending on when you bought it and if you bought it new) waranty may be useful.) and the next set of ram he bought worked...

another user bought this ram CT2KIT51264BC1339 and found it worked.

i know its not what you wanna hear but its pretty much the same answer for every 1 i can find with this issue.

I just switched it up, works in either slot as long as original ram is in there. I'm going to see if it is under warranty next I guess, last possible solution lol...thanks for your help

if you have sysoft sandra run it and see if the timings are identical as its starting to sound like a hardware block. but saying as toshiba dont to my knowledge do that (hp and del used to put blocks in place which forced the buyer to buy there upgrades off them and no 1 else) its odd. i could just be that the ram isnt compatable with the motherboard but again its hard to see.

while your chatting to toshiba ask what ram is compatable and is there any stipulations that you need to be aware of to stop this in future...
it may be they have already issued a fix in a bios update but you will have to look for that in your lappys support section (yes bios upgrades improve memory compatibility if there are issues)
