Why are the Xeon processors so expensive? whats special about them?

Solution
Depends on which Xeons you are really talking about. E5's are specialized for server use. Often they have much more cache, and support ECC ram. The E3 series are basically desktop CPU's with ECC ram support. The 1230 and up are all i7 based. The 1220/1225 are nothing more than i5's. All E3's with a 0 for the last number lack IGP. The ones with a 5 at the end have IGP. The 1230/1240/1245 are competitively priced compared to their i7 cousins. The 1220/1225 are, for whatever reason, priced higher than a similar clocked i5. You can get a 4670k for less than a slower 1225 v3.
