Was this a good custom build for $700?

Did I do good on my $700 custom build? The exchange period is only 15 days at Microcenter; so I want to know if I chose good parts. I brought everything at a local Microcenter and Fry's Electronics. I got the GTX 570 for only $110 with a 2-year in-store warranty. It's faster than a Radeon HD 7850 so don't ask me why I chose this.

Intel Core i5 4670K
ASRock Z87 Extreme4
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600 (2x4GB)
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD drive
2TB Western Digital hard drive (from my old computer)
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 HD 1280MB GDDR5
Corsair Carbide Series 200R Mid-Tower Case
Corsair TX650M Modular 80 Plus Bronze Certified Power Supply

I originally got the Corsair GS700 power supply, but it had 4 broken Sata connectors so I replaced it with the TX650M from Fry's. I already replaced the ASRock motherboard once because it had bent pins on the CPU socket.

I could not find any graphics card at $110 with GTX 570 performance. The best you'll find is a HD 7770 at $110; you can't even buy a stock GTX 650 Ti which is almost twice slower than the GTX 570.

The cheapest GTX 660 is like $180; most are $200. My build budget was $700. That would mean I would have to cheap out on some other component like the PSU, etc. I also chose the Core i5-4670K over the 8320 due to core IPC performance and it runs cooler. The 8320 is a great processor, but I don't think I need 8 threads when most programs I use are single/dual threaded. I chose the SSD for my OS. I have a 2TB Western Digital hard drive for storage.

yes but your gpu is trash compared to the 660 if you go with the 660 and cheapen out on the processor which most people say dont buy i5 unless your budget is over 1000 dollars go with the 8320. i understand the single core preformance kills the 8320, but i have the 8320 and i game with it, watch movies, multitask and my rig is great. it's just my opinion but if you dont want to max fps on games then go with your build

The GTX 570 is actually slightly faster than the GTX 660 if you check benchmarks online. I know the 660 is newer, but I wasn't going to bump up my budget from $700. The GTX 570 isn't really that bad for $110. I went with the i5-4670K because I really wanted to go the Intel route. I would've gone with the 8320 if my budget was like $500-600. I'll buy a new graphics card in the future if the GTX 570 starts showing poor performance. Thanks for the input.

People, just because the GX570 is a couple of generations old, doesn't make it slow and obsolete.

For example, the 5970 from 2009 still beats card like the R9 280 even though is a few generations behind.

If the graphics card does what you want it to do, it's a good choice as far as I'm concerned.

Thomas :)

Looks good to me. If you were looking to save money without having to change too much you could change the cpu from the i5 4670k to an i3 4430. You could possibly take that money saved and add an HDD to the sytem for additional storage. Alternatively if you don't like the idea of downgrading a little or perhaps you intend to overclock (based on what I see in you build, that seems likely) don't change anything at all and just flat out add some storage making that $700 build a $750 build. I'm sure you can get 1tb 7200 RPM HDD at a good price from Microcenter.

I understand your reasoning completely, but I highly doubt I'll see that much difference between a 660 and 570. Right now I'm only playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and StarCraft 2. In CS:GO I get 160-290 FPS on highest settings with AA and AF maxed out. I get 250+ FPS in StarCraft 2 with everything on high and around 70 FPS on Ultra High. FYI. I'm still using a full screen IPS LCD monitor at 1600x1200; I don't feel the need to upgrade the monitor yet.

Sorry, I forgot to mention on the first post that I have a 2TB Western Digital hard drive for storage. It was a spare hard drive from my old computer.
