I have three partitions on my Levono Z575 and one (J:) is 100gb but shows only 66gb avaialble.

I can not see what is using the 33gb that is missing. There are folders for recycle.bin, boot, and System Volume Information. Plus there is a bootmgr file. All of these folders size total less than 15mb.

What is holding the 32+gb?

Solution
1) You can check "Show Hidden Files" in Windows Explorer.

2) You can also look at Disk Management which may or may not reveal anything in that 100GB partition.

You can GOOGLE for how to do the above.

Normally there is only ONE partition shown (C-drive) and the Hidden one as mentioned with the backup Image of Windows however that should be HIDDEN as in no drive letter.

On many laptops today including Lenovo, there is something called a Hidden Recovery partition that is set aside for a full system restore. They can range anywhere from 8GB to 32GB and contains all the startup programs when you get a fresh laptop. It's good because you don't need to carry with you CD's everywhere to re-install if you should ever have a problem.
Yes it's bad because you don't get the full amount of free storage that was granted but it's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Is this your boot drive? There are many temporary files being accumulated over a period of time of use. Plus continuous downloading increases the risk malware attacks as well.

Better Run MalwarBytes to check for any malware attack. Consider running Antivirus scan as well.

Try to clear the temporary files like clearing the list of your internet browser etc

Also check for programs which are installed but not in use.

Good Luck

Thanks all (Quarkz, EasyL, Photonb).
The one HDD has three volumes, J, C, and OEM). J is 100gb, C is 282gb, and OEM is 15gb. The fist partition, J, is where I am trying to see where the 33gb is held. Folder options is set to show hidden and system objects, and so this is why I can't understand what is holding the 33gb space. I have also used the CMD window to look in the volume using the old dos command "dir *.* /s /ah" and "dir *.* /s /as". I am tempted to just format J which wll erase the boot folder.

Again, thanks.
