Hello, this is the first time i've ever actually made a thread regarding hardware/software issues but I just really don't know what else to do, it's driving me insane. I have been receiving a blue screen for the past couple of weeks with the error code IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and any help would be appreciated.

It primarly BSOD's when running flash videos or transfering a lot of data. but it's definitely not the hard drive/cables since I have tested 3 different hard drives and numerous cables.

I have done a few things to try and determine the problem such as: formatting, testing each ram stick, unplugging cd drive, using different hard drives but it does it nonetheless. I cannot test the cpu, grfx or motherboard properly since i dont have any substitutes. The motherboard is really old so it wouldn't surprise me if it's time was just due.

Specs:
I'm running windows 7 starter edition.

Motherboard: - Asus M2V
cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
vga: HD4870
ram: 4gb ocz

One more thing to note as well, my mouse (razer diamondback) quite regularly disconnects (goes off) and I have to replug the usb. But it does it even with the mouse disconnected which leads be to believe it might possibly be a USB connection problem?

what do you think the next step for my troubleshooting should be? if you want me to give you any information from commands etc to help me try and solve the issue then i will.

I haven't ram a memtest as of yet, but, I wouldnt really be able to anyway since i will more than likely get a bluescreen in the process but i'll give that a shot for the time being. thanks. jak

okay thank you i'll give that a go and i'll post back tomorrow morning :)

I have reason to believe that problem lies with my HD4870 though. because when i get bsod it says something about this file: WER-38859-0.sysdata.xml

and i googled this and i found another post ---> http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/807739-bsod-vista-64-after-hours.html

anddddd it's ironic that he also has a HD4870 :/ read this post on that thread:

" Thank you Gandalf.
Unfortunately it is not the RAM, I tested it before posting.
I think it started after I intalled an HD4870, which runs great in all test I've tried.
If I get another BSOD I will upload the minidump file.
Thanks a lot for taking the time. "

thanks, Jak.

Though, I did download ATItraytools thingy to turn down the clocks on my HD4870 and it doesn't seem to be happening as much at all. so maybe my HD4870 has become defective =/ bah, idk... really appreciate the help
