Hey all,

I built a new computer recently, and installed my graphics card without issues. Right now, my monitor is plugged into my graphics card, but the integrated graphics still shows up in windows device manager. I was wondering if you guys could tell me how to remove integrated graphics from device manager, (Or if this is even necessary)

Thanks!

Windows: 7 Ultimate
Motherboard: ga-z87x-d3h
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670
Graphics: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 760

Solution

You just asked that and I just answered it lol but no, no CPU power is being used for integrated graphics to be on, it's actually its own separate chip apart from the CPU, just happens to be on the same die.

Thanks Hitech, out of curiosity, does having it show up in the device manager slow down my CPU at all? Put another way, does it still act as a graphics card, just with nothing plugged in? I don't want the CPU to still be performing an integrated graphics function, when the CPU could be doing other things...

I hope that makes sense.

No, if your monitor is plugged into the GPU, the GPU will be performing 100% of the graphics work loads. It just doesn't shut off integrated graphics so you can hook up more than 3 monitors without having to mess with the BIOS. You aren't wasting any CPU power on the integrated graphics being turned on, the only thing it would do is maybe draw an extra 2 or 3 watts lol

Sorry for the dumb question, but will having integrated graphics enabled slow down my CPU. I don't know if this makes sense or not... Are the integrated graphics functions of my CPU tied to it's processing ability?

I am probably being paranoid, and I'm sorry for that!

Thank you again!

How much reserved memory are we talking? The default is set to 64mb, which with 8 gigs of RAM won't make much difference, however, the default DVMT is set to max, which is up to 1 gig.

With a dedicated graphics card installed, will the onboard graphics ever take up 1 gig of reserved memory?

No, the 1GB is what it is allowed to access as reserved from the system if the memory is needed for graphics output. Since you are using the GPU as the output device, the integrated GPU has nothing to put into memory, therefore is not "blocking access" to memory from the system.

Great, one last (probably stupid) question, should I get rid of the drivers for the integrated GPU? Will they interfere at all with the dedicated graphics card if the integrated card is disabled?
