Gigabyte h87-d3h won't recognize two monitors

I've just installed this Gigabyte motherboard. It was advertised as being able to run two monitors. I have installed one VGA monitor to the VGA connector and a DVI monitor to the DVI connector. However I can only get the same display on both monitors. Under Windows 7 and under AMD Vision Control Centre neither monitor is recognised, but both are configured to the maximum resolution of the VGA monitor.

I have set the BIOS settings to max the memory allocated, and I have the latest BIOS installed.

Is this the correct behaviour, or is the motherboard faulty, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Tony

Just would like to clear something up. If you are using integrated graphics why use AMD vision control center instead of Intel HD graphics?

If you have an AMD GPU, you will need to connect both monitors to the card as that motherboard does not support using the integrated graphics and a GPU at the same time = no dual monitor just cloning.

Ha! I wish I knew why I have that AMD Control Centre. It seems to have installed itself with the drivers loaded from the Gigabyte CD that came with the board. I don't have a graphics card, and there seems to be no way of uninstalling the AMD Control Centre. It may be because AMD are responsible for the graphics chip used in the motherboard. I am using it with a Pentium 3420, so really the dual graphics chip on board should work fine.

Just an addition: I've just noticed that when looking at the Screen Resolution pop-up in Windows, it says my monitor is on the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, while in fact it is plugged in to the DVI port on the motherboard. Could be a faulty motherboard connector. Any suggestions?

The standard VGA adaptor thing is normal. I have dual monitors, both plugged in via DVI and that's how they show up.

The motherboard itself does not have an AMD video chipset. The onboard video is provided by the CPU - Intel HD graphics.

Try right clicking on your desktop and go into screen resolution. Does it give icons in the top "window" for both monitors? If so go to the Multiple displays option and select Extend these displays from the drop down menu.

Thanks for the idea. I already tried going into screen resolution. Only one monitor shows up -- although when I plug in only the DVI monitor it is recognised by its proper name (when both are plugged in, the one monitor shown has no identity other than normal). At least I now know that it's normal to see them as 'standard VGA'.
