Ok guys ive bought a xfx hd 7850 graphics card i plug it in, making sure everything is seated correctly including the pci-e power from my rosewill 450w modular psu (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182261) Thats it. Im trying to use a dvi-d to vga adaptor (that i know works forsure it works with my old 4770) Ive tried both dvi connections, ive also cleared the bios on the mobo, But im always getting no signal, help? Could plugging it into a hdmi port help like in a hdtv?

If it is a DVI-D, it won't run a VGA monitor

Only DVI-I, or DVI-A will work with an adapter.
No analog signal out of a DVI-D.(digatal only)

I've never seen a DVI-A analog only.
You need a DVI-I, it has analog, and digital.

Edit
HDMI to HDMI should work.

Possible, but I still would not be ready to say that is the problem.

There is really not a lot of incompatibility, among video cards.
The only one I have ever heard of, is some PCI-e 1.0 cards won't run on some newer boards.

It is hard to say till you cross check every part.

Well honestly the graphics card works for sure, and its not my psu forsure im not sure what else it would be, and i know the pci-e slot is good because i pop my 4770 back in and it works perfectly.

You may be right, but I learned a long, long time ago, that nothing is for sure with computer diagnosis at first glance.

What PCI-e slot version dose your board have.

I had the incompatibility of those backwards.
The boards with 1.0 slots won't run some cards with PCI-e Version 2.0, and 3.0. there is also a 1.1

but this really confuses me, why dosnt it work then if it is compatible? could it be the cpu or the ram then because i know both could cause the no signal problem.

Yeah im guessing thats it, honestly im fine with it, It gives me an excuse to upgrade lol. Looking at a new core i5 cpu something that wont have an extreme bottle neck with a 7850.

I just put together an i5 4670, with an MSI B85-G41 motherboard.
The board was only $80

I see no need for me to overclock, anymore, so the non K is fine.
Even though the board isn't a Z chip, it still has some overclocking ability.
I Flight Sim, so I will never SLI, or Cross Fire, as there is no benefit in FSX.

Even without a video card, it runs on max settings.

I know everyone says FSM needs an overclocked i7, but I can't see a need so far.
