I have been playing Borderlands 2 and Tomb Raider lately and I get a couple minutes into the game and my whole computer reboots. No blue screen or anything, just turns off for a sec and then starts right back up.

Parts are below. I have the latest 14.1 Beta for the 7870XT. Flashed the latest F2 Bios for the mobo. No overclock on the 4770k. Ram running at 2400

Temps for the video card during the game were around 70 at the max, which isnt anything outrageous. I overclock to 1150/1500 with 20% power boost.

Just ran a quick prime95 blend and temps maxed at 61 before settling back in around 58-59, so I don't think that is an issue.

The only thing I can think of is the graphics driver. Anyone else having issues with that?

Thanks

Try to keep your system idle for some time and check if its rebooting. if it is then can be the problem of your motherboard or processor.
if you have recently installed a new graphics card or HDD ensure that it is connected properly.
if problem persists then contact a professional.

I have no problems doing anything else. I do CAD work (Microstation) on here all day, remote desktop, multiple tabs in chrome, triple monitors and everything works fine. I was just watching my temps while playing borderlands 2 and my 4770k maxed at like 50C and the 7870XT was riding at 67C the whole time. Hardly a heat issue. I am thinking drivers; reverting back to 13.12 to see how that works.

try resetting your BIOS (if you have made any changes to it) other wise make sure the settings are in default (especially cpu, ram, and GPU options)

I reset my BIOS. It may have reset itself after I updated the BIOS. I went back in and set the XMP profile again. Maybe my RAM was doing something weird. I restored optimized defaults before I started adding settings back, so we will see what happens when I get a chance to test it again.

I have tried just about everything I can think of at this point. I have a stable overclock at 4.2 Ghz, tested with OCCT. Let a memtest run over night and that turned up nothing. I watch my temps while playing games and I dont see anything nearly as high when I am stress testing on the CPU or Vid Card.

One thing I keep reading is possibly power supply. I have a 750W and every psu calculator i have tried says I have more than enough juice. I am going to try the OCCT test for PSU tomorrow.

Also ran a WhoCrashed report and both times the problem was caused by the module here: C:\Windows\system32\hal.dll with the description: Hardware Abstraction Layer DLL. It says this is likely a hardware issue, but I have no idea which part.

Any help would be great, thanks

I feel pretty confident in saying the problem ended up being the graphics driver. I tried 14.2, 14.1, & 13.12 and all resulted in complete shutdowns of my computer after playing games for about 10 mins. Went back to 13.9 and everything has been fine. Played for over a half hour each of the last two nights with no issue. Even added in an overclock of the CPU to 4.2 Ghz and applied XMP profile to my RAM to get it up to 2400. Did a quick Linx stress test to adjust the voltage on the CPU a bit and all is well.

I don't believe it made a difference, but I also installed MSI Afterburned 2.3.1 or whatever the latest official is. I had been using a Beta version for some reason. This probably wasnt the issue since I wasnt applying any overclocks to my GPU while testing for the shutdown issue, but I thought i would mention it.

Apparently Im just not meant to upgrade my graphics driver. Everything works great, so not a big deal. Hopefully that helps someone.
