Hey, I just finished my first build using:

A6-5400K
GA-F2A55M-HD2
G.Skill 1600 (4GB)
WD Blue 1TB
Corsair 430 PSU
Rosewill FBM-01

When everything was said and done, PC posted and booted up fine, but when I ran HWMonitor I got temp of 55C+ at idle, ended up hopping into bios and temp jumped from mid 30s to 50C+ and kept rising.

I decided to replace the stock heatsink with a Hyper 101a and, after wasting a tube of AF5 and 4 reseating, the temp stayed the same.

I ended up running P95 during 3/4 reseating and temp kept rising for CPU package to 80C+, using HWMonitor. Letting P95 run for about 30 min, the CPU temp stabilized at about 80C, no other temp monitoring software would work with the build so I opted for the gigabyte utility/sync v.6 app and to my surprise CPU temp showed up at 40Cish idle and no more then 55C at load. To take it a step further, I got into the bios and set it to sound an alarm at 60C, repeated the test and nada, not a sound other then the fans, which are 3 pin and run at a constant speed. With all the above going on I thought it would be to my benefit to open the case and feel the heat sink, it turned out that the top was cool, while base was warmish. I am at a loss as to what I should be doing next and I would appreciate any kind of insight as I am basically a beginner with this kind of stuff.

FYI: HWMonitor Temps were 70-80C during load at CPU Package but matched the temp for Gigabyte utility app v6 at the tempin2. No OC, had to shift heatsink a lot during latest reseat.

I am not able to change that in Bios, just the option of Auto, Normal or addition to current voltage. Checking the details for the M.I.T., for each core the temps were about 27-30C. I also, downloaded AIDA and it is showing temps of 51C+ load, and GPU-Z is also showing similar temps.

Running a bunch of different monitors at the same time really screws things up. It seems like you could use a new cooler or fans, could I get a picture of the inside of your case? It just seems like you don't have the cooling power you need.

The bottom right hand fan is pushing air in and the other two on top are pulling the air out, along with a little help from the PSU. I have tried to switch the fans but to no avail, temp hasn't dropped! Had a buddy of mine reseat the HSU and I am still getting the same readings, I am really thinking that the temps are off, could a sensor be bad?

I cleaned the CPU and cooler with the Artic cleaner 1+2, I will try the push pull method when I get home. Would there be any issue if the heatsink is cool to the touch at the top and luke warm near the bottom of the base? I am thinking of sending it to a repair shop to take a look at it, will update as soon as I get the comp back.

These are a disaster to read temps from I've found, I use core temp for my trinity apu which gives me near 50 degC after a few hours of p95, my package temps (whatever they are) have always been 80+ touching 90, I'm now oc'd near a year without any failure/instability at all. Try a fan near the socket or back of the board and the package should decrease alot. Afaik the bios loads the cpu a bit, not 100% maybe 50%, someone else might chime in but I dont think bios gives you idle temps.

Core Temp wouldn't register any changes in the temp, idle or load. Took it into shop and they stated that the Comp is fine in regards to stability, they reseated the HSU for good measure, and I am still getting similar results. The associate who was dealing with the build stated that the specific CPU - A6-5400K - had a "locked" CPU sensor IDK what he was talking about, payed him and left. The build will be mainly used as a HTPC and maybe burning a few DL-DVDs, should I just let it run till I get a crash - with P95? I have insurance through my CC, and that runs for each component for about 90 day, I was think of maybe torture testing it and then manually checking the heatsink/base temps. Is that a good idea?

con635, I am having similar stats/temps but with HWMonitor. Package temp along with timpin2 rise when under load and timpin2 even gets close to about 60 when running AMD overdrive auto tune for OCing. I have a feeling that timpin2 might be the right temp.

I guess you're right, I am just going to leave it alone for the time being and if it breaks down then look for the issue or scrap what I can and rebuild. Thanks for the info!
