Most games won't use any more than 4 gig, a few new ones may be able to use more, but you probably won't be able to tell the difference.
8 is slightly faster/better than 7, but if you don't have a touch screen, and don't like the interface, most people still buy 7.

Depends on the games, Win itself can eat up 1.5 GB, start up programs a little more...8GB is basically considered the entry level spot these days, even most all pre-built computers today come with a minimum of 6-8 GB
