hi. I installed an EVGA 2GB NVidia GTX 770 based card in an HP desktop. the computer has a 600 watt power supply, which is the stated minimum for the card. The power supply had a free 6 pin and 8 pci pci express power connector, which I plugged into the card.

on boot, I get the bios flash screen, but then it eventually goes black with a blinking cursor and simply beeps. one beep, widely spaced. looking for the AMI BIOS beep codes, it says memory refresh. the memory is fine, as it worked perfectly with a different card. I removed all drives but one small SSD, and same thing.

does this sound like not enough power? what's my best bet - replace the power supply (not sure if HP is using a standard PS) or try a lower-spec card that uses less juice?

the machine has 16gb of ram (4x4), i7-3930k 3.2ghz, z75 chipset.

thanks very much in advance!

Find what brand your power supply is first, so we can find just how much power it actually pumps. Normally, power supplies that come with pre-built computers are Tier 5, which are untrusted. So to be safe, you should upgrade that PSU to something better, even a good 550 Watt PSU could run that setup.
