No DVI Monitor but buying a motherboard with only DVI-D and HDMI

Hi,

So I'm working on building an HTPC and I've run into a potential problem. I had my choice of motherboards narrowed down to two. The one I had settled on was out of stock when I finally decided to pull the trigger. The one I ended up with should be just fine, but it only has a DVI-D port and HDMI. I will not be purchasing a separate graphics card. What I'm wondering is if I can count on the HDMI port being active at boot-up. The only monitor I have, besides my HDTV is VGA. I know I could buy a somewhat pricey converter to do what I need but I'm hoping to avoid that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI FM2+

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Would a DVI to HDMI converter work? There's one on Amazon and it's a quarter of the cost of the DVI to VGA converter. I'd love to buy a DVI monitor, but I don't have the money right now. Plus, I only need it for setting up the HTPC. Once it's set up it'll be forever plugged in to my TV.
