Is it worth to replace a GTX 550 Ti with a 750 Ti?

Hi there‼

I've been googling around, trying to find out whether a 750 Ti would be a significant improvement over my EVGA GTX 550 Ti (Superclocked version), but I haven't been able to come to a conclusion yet, particularly due to the lack of information on the 750 Ti, which came out only a few days ago.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, an i3 530 and a Corsair CX430 power supply.

Thank you very much‼ :)

The GTX550Ti is slightly below an HD5770. I would really be guessing at the HD5770 falling in between the HD7750 and the GT640.

Thus, your frame rate at the same settings MAY go up by 2.5x but that's really going to vary a lot. This was an AVERAGE though, but in more CPU-dependent games it won't be as high. I think 2x for GW2 is a good guess (i.e. 60FPS when you normally get 30FPS).

Hm, thanks for the answers‼

But I'm still wondering - the game I most play is Guild Wars 2 (at the moment, anyway), so I don't know if I should replace my graphics card or the i3. I've seen plenty of people saying that the CPU is the most important part to run that game well, though I think I shouldn't be putting down some good hundred bucks (parts are more expensive in my country than in the US) for one game only.

Obviously it would be ideal to replace BOTH, however your GTX550Ti is a very weak graphics card relatively. Your money would be best spent replacing that.

Not sure if I could find benchmarks to easily compare but it would be a big difference.

*Make sure you have 64-bit Windows or else I suggest you get a 1GB video card.

THIS is the card I recommend from Asus (USA link): http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx750tioc2gd5

I'll guess parts for your motherboard are scarce, the LGA1156 socket is now 4 generations old and parts here in the UK can only quickly be found on E-bay or Amazon, and they're nearly all used, which means that unless you're prepared to risk buying used parts, the only CPU upgrade option will be to change the motherboard as well-potentially very expensive.
It's also worth pointing out that a CPU/MB upgrade will require at the least a reinstall of Windows and if you have an OEM version, it will be locked to the current hardware anyway, so you'll need to get a fresh licence-more expense.
If you intend to upgrade the CPU with a used part, check the motherboard BIOS will support the upgraded part, if not you will need to update the BIOS before installing the upgrade-obvious I know but it's easy to forget. ;)
I'll suggest you go for the GTX750Ti and start saving for a MB/CPU/Windows upgrade rather than risk upgrading with used parts.

Alright, then I know what I'm going for‼ Thanks everyone for the insight and quick answers.

I'll begin saving up now, so I may be able to buy the GTX 750 Ti in about 3 or 4 months.

Thank you all again. :)
