My NetGear WNDR3400 has been sucking it up lately.

I'm looking for a good budget router that gives me the basics and also let's me control the bandwidth through my devices. Is there anything out there?

Solution
There are several, however the cost varies quite a bit.

I'm not sure what "sucking it up" means, but from the customer reviews there are LOTS of issues with dropped wi-fi connectivity.

If you have a WARRANTY still for that Router then I'd return it, but it sounds like some major problems. Still, I'd investigate if there's a FIRMWARE update and see if that helps.

Try going to NCIX or NEWEGG and filter by price and customer reviews.

THIS would be my quick recommendation: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320062

The Wi-Fi isn't that great as it seems to be. It does drop WiFi a lot.. but you just have to restart the WiFi and it's fixed. I do have the firmware all the way updated.

That ASUS has way too many features that I won't ever use. I basically need a router that has lan ports and wifi. Wifi isn't the priority for speed, but I do want some range on the router. And I don't need gigabyte lan parts either. I don't give a crap about my roommates that use wifi. I care about my connection :p

mine did this too. WNDR3400v1. In fact, this router is warranted forever, and they have sent me a couple. However on the last go-around, they said

redownload the current bios from the website
reflash the bios
do not reload any saved configurations. do them de-novo (i have a lot of custom features)

There were a couple other things.

use inssider

www.inssider.com

to identify competition on the 2.5 and 5 ghz network channels and move to less used channels. they used to have a free version; i dont know if it is still free

They told me to disable SIP ALG on NAT Filtering (leave open). Quite frankly i didnt see what this had to do with anything.

I am pretty sure that the rest of my setting are default.

I have not had a problem since - and this was several months ago. i am running V1.0.0.38_1.0.61

2.4 GHz radio is channel 11
5 GHz radio is channel 44
