Hi, I really hope you can help me with this issue!

My wifi connectivity has always been has been a little problematic, but it's almost constant now. I will be connected to a network when I close my laptop and, when I re-open it, my connection is gone. I often switch networks throughout the day (home, school, office), which may have something to do with it, but this happens even when I re-open my laptop without having moved.

Sometimes the connectivity icon in the system tray looks like everything is fine. Other times, it is empty with a little asterisk in the corner. If the icon looks normal when I click on it, the Networks side bar opens and shows a "No networks found" message (maybe not those exact words). If the icon has the asterisk, the Network sidebar may not open at all.

When I try to troubleshoot, the only thing it ever detects is that my ethernet cable isn't plugged in (so helpful...). The only way I have found to resolve this is by closing everything and restarting the computer, which is frustrating to say the least.

Here are some specifications:
Computer: Sony Vaio (Model SVE14AG19L) bought in June/July 2013
OS: Windows 8.1
Wireless Network Adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG (with latest driver installed)

Hi, thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid I don't understand. What does my SSID have to do with my problem? Can you please explain in more detail? Thanks,
Jamie
