Yet another 8350 or 9370

I'm considering doing some gradual upgrading.
I'm currently using a Phenom II 4x 965 on an ASUS M4A89GTD-Pro/USB3.

I'm choosing between the 8350, and the 9370... I've read elsewhere that I should probably be considering the 8350 and not the 9370 due to overclocking.
I haven't YET chosen a new mobo, but any recommendations would obviously be appreciated.

In Canada I'm considering 3 main sources for each.
EDIT: (8350) | (9370) | (8320)
NCIX $219.99 | 239.99 | 174.99
NewEgg $209.99 | 291.99 | 149.99
TigerDirect $204.99 | 249.97 | 159.97

With the $35 difference in lowest prices, should I still be considering the 8350?
Looked at the Prices for the 8320, kinda nice, but I still want the best performance.

Just make sure you get a stable mobo for those chips first i reckon. You might get a decent 8350& a 5.0ghz oc, but you might not aswell :p It was probably more likely before amd started to sort through them. The 8350 is fine to get if you want, it's all down to budget really. Personally if money was tight i'd get a 8320&put the saving of the 9370 to a soilid psu (500-600w) Seasonic, xfx, antec or some cosairs. If you do oc i probably would change the psu.

i hope it helps, oh & btw that cpu cooler looks crazy! :p Never seen that before.

Really depends how lucky you get with the chip you get sent :p For both the 83xx

I'm not sure a 9370 would run on that mobo (200w or so) it says 140max, i would out of those 3 go for the 8320, however that is an older chipset so might not work. The 9370 is a cherry picked/overclocked chip that used to be a 8350. I would suggest reading more into that mobo+cpu aswell to make sure it will run. I would put no more than a 8320 in that mobo (was surprised it might be able to support it) Still, should read up a bit to decide.

You normally need a decent 970 board or higher (esp for oc'ing) minimum, such as the ass m5a97 (or evo)

I found here someone testing it, with a 8320 with a bios update (&i think a max oc to 4.0 then throttled :

http://www.overclock.net/t/1326459/m4a89td-pro-and-a-fx-6100-fx-8320-test-results

asking a similar question

I would possibly say maybe grab a better psu such as a Seasonic 500-600w, an xfx, antec or 'some' corsair (i'm not sure how god that psu is)

Hope it helps.

Ah ok, well if you are wanting a new mobo it depends on price, for a 970 chipset m5a97 evo is very good for a stable oc (the m5a97 r2 is ok, but a little less oc due to 4+1 phases) Some gigabytes have problems (throttling) so best to check up on that. Although i was looking at the new UD3P recently. I would avoid Msi on the am3+ altogether currently, but that's just my opinion :p

for a 990 the asus are good (m99x etc.. &sabertooths) and a few of the gigabytes (some have quite a few revisions)

I hope it helps!

Thanks, it certainly helps in choosing something to eventually sink the chip in.

Aside from vmN's suggestion, It still seems the 8350 might be a worthy contender to use.

I understand that the chips might come from the same bin as all the others, but they're labeled and packaged that way due to internal testing at AMD. So to err on caution, OC'ing the 8350 closer to 5Ghz would be easier to do (at least to reach 4.8Ghz) than it would be with the 8320.

Probably sink it in the current motherboard for the hell of it. Going by that logic however, I still haven't put my current CPU through the ringer and OC'd it at all.

Yeah I saw that, 8320 @ 4.4 and maxed at 4.6... but then I also see a number of people experiencing problems OCing due to lack of APM(?), needing bios updates, and sometimes chips not reaching the speeds I'd like them to get to.

The other I saw was a "CPU Master" with a 8350 @ 5.1

in another thread:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/352285-28-8320-8350-budget

some of the other "CPU Masters" lean towards the 8350 as well

So again between 8350 vs 8320, it seems that the 8350 is a lot more solid on OC performance even though they might come from the same batch.

So if the 8320 can reach a stable 4.4-4.6, and a 8350 stock is 4 and can be OC'd to 5.1 that's an extra .5-.7 Ghz that I can add to my performance.
