Do you know if it is possible to bypass the whole eSATA multiplier raid cards and plug the eSATA cable directly into the motherboard?

If not, do I need a specific motherboard that supports this, or must I deal with these crappy port multiplier cards?

Thanks

If you have a single drive esata drive then you can probably do this, if you have a multiple drive enclosure then you need port mulitplication which your build in motherbd ports might not support leaving you stuck with trying to find an esata card thats decent. You will need to know which type of port multiplication you need before you invest in an esata card. There is Command Based switching and Fis based. Be sure you get the correct card as they are not interchangeable.
