Fallout 3 is a great RPG FPS game. In fact, it is the only game I ever purchased on release day. Looking forward to Fallout 4.

For RPGs that are not FPS, check out the Mass Effect Trilogy. It is a 3rd person view game. The 1st game in the trilogy is RPG, Mass Effect 2 was a mix of RPG and action. Mass Effect 3 is mostly action with RPG elements. It is a story driven game which unfortunately had a very controversial original ending which more or less did not reflect much consequences of the choices you have made throughout the trilogy. Bioware released a free extended ending DLC to address the issue and to placate most of the criticisms. However, there are some people who outright hate Mass Effect 3 because of the original ending and considers it the worst game of 2012 purely due to the ending.

Dragon Age: Origins is a pretty good 3rd Person RPG (a Bioware game) lot's of replay value if you want to explore different story options (similar to Mass Effect). Dragon Age 2 however, was not very well received. I didn't bother playing it. You are basically a great hero and errand boy at the same time.

Currently playing Star Trek Online (STO) which is 3rd person RPG game you can play in the Federation, Klingon or Romulan factions. It take into consideration the destruction of Romulus and Remus (Star Trek 2009 movie). It is a free 2 play game (silver) or you can subscribe to the game by paying $15 per month (gold). The game is completely playable for free. Of course subscribing give you some perks that would otherwise a cost you a little bit of cash as a free player. Each faction has it's own storyline which is a single player campaign. STO is basically a single player game with MMO elements, at least as far as the campaign is concerned. You do not need to play the campaign.
