why does my router go to limited connectivity at least once an hour?

OK I have browsed this site a bit but no threads seem to deal with my issue. I have a Belkin router that is now at least 6 years old. still seems to work fine but it seems about once or twice an hour the connection goes down and internet stops working. then a minute later the connection at the bottom of my laptop gets that little yellow ! , and says limited connectivity. This can be resolved by either waiting a few minutes or if I just click to disconnect from my router and reconnect. I don't physically pull the plug on the router itself. anyway that gets it to work again for an hour then disconnects again after an hour or less.
I have checked the wireless card driver, up to date. checked my router firmware - up to date even though no firmware updates in years.
I tried shutting off the firewall to the router.
Could it be the type of security I have on it?

This also has to do with my ps3 I believe, as when im gaming for an extended period of time, suddenly ill time out and get kicked out of a game, but when I go back to a lobby usually im already connected back or seemed to have never lost connection except for maybe a second. A good example is playing COD zombies and getting to level 30+ and constantly being timed out because the connection gets lost for even a moment or a few minutes maybe. very frustrating.

But I figured that this happens to my lap top and ps3 it had to be either my modem which just got replaced from optimum yesterday and it still does it. the next step was increasing internet speed, and its still doing it. my last option is the wireless router. should I get a new router? ive seen threads that interference in the walls or the channel I have it set to could affect it with too many devices, or a 2.4 hz could be doing it. any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

if the major devices used at ones yes u can loose connectivity .i newer use wirelesses for gaming, cause its pointless , wirelesses connectivity loosing some much packets (data) like fps u already in the back of the big building and get shot.i reset my modem ones a wail by unplugging from the wall for couple minutes and restarting pc at same time.
