Our local YWCA has IT tech support, but they can not solve this issue. Their network allows any device to log on with the correct password, however it will not pass data on tablets or laptops. Cell phones (either Android or Apple) work correctly. They have another network which will not allow access with Apple Iphones or any tablet or laptop. Again, Android devices work properly. I don't even know how you could configure a network to act this way? I guess it must be a firewall issue, however I anyone has any insight which I could pass along to their IT, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

Well what you can do is try reset your device (not to factory settings, but shut it off and wait until it comes back on.) If that doesnt work check your network settings. Make sure your wifiis turned on. If either of those do not work than maybe the wifi does not support tablets, laptos, etc.

On a PC do ipconfig /all and ensure you are getting a IP. Make sure the DNS field is set..it will likely have the same ip as the gateway.

Now make sure you can ping the gateway. That means you have basic connectivity so anything else is likely a firewall issue.

See if you can ping a common address like 4.2.2.2 or 8.8.8.8
issue the command
nslookup www.microsoft.com
nslookup www.microsoft.com 8.8.8.8

If all this works then you actually have connectivity to the internet and it is likely there is some form of filter blocking you.

I'll try to ping the Google DNS server the next time I'm there. I have done ipconfig and can get the IP. Anyone can log into the access point with the password. All devices show connected, however they will not pass data. It show "limited connectivity". This is not related to one computer. My Android device works great. This issue is with ANY Apple Iphone or any tablet or laptop. They do have one access point which seems to work with every device. All the others are blocking Apple Iphones and any tablet or laptop. I agree, this has to be a firewall issue, but how would you even go about blocking specifically these type of devices and allowing Android access???

It actually can fairly easily. Your browser bleeds lots of information about your system in the headers when you open pages. It is how many web pages can load different version based on your browser or guess you are on a mobile device and only give you a subset.

Still they generally know when they are doing stuff like this since you have to intentional configure content filters.
