I've just built a computer for the sister, partly from recommendations on this forum, thanks to everyone who contributed. :)

Here is what it is.

Asus H81-PLUS
Intel Pentium Dual Core G3420 3.20GHz
Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance Memory (x2)
Corsair Carbide Series 200R ATX Case Black w/ USB 3.0
Toshiba 2TB DT Series Internal Hard Drive
ASUS HD 7770 1GB GDDR5 4500MHz
XFX Core Edition 550w 80+ Bronze Captive PSU

Now I have little experience with Windows 7, but since installing the numerous Windows Updates... the machine is amazingly slow. I'm talking I click the start menu button and 10-20 seconds later the Start Menu comes up. It's bloody pathetic, my Windows XP machine that hasn't been reformatted in 4 years is 20 times more responsive..

Unfortunately I haven't run into this kind of problem on a computer before, so I'm unsure what to check. Anyone want to try and help me? It's Windows 7 32bit also... is that a problem? Perhaps if I install the 64bit version it'll work better?

So far I've made sure the GFX card is up to date in drivers, and I just updated the Motherboard's BIOS as another forum suggested that for slow performance, but I don't think it's helped.

It's also possible my ESET Smart Security 5 is doing something to slow it down, as I installed it around the same time I did all the Windows Updates.. so it could be either or, but again.. I use the same ESET on my XP machine and apart from perhaps 30 seconds at startup it doesn't slow my computer at all.

I'll gladly start running tests and such once I know what to do. ^^
