Please help I've called tech support and still no real answers. Upgrade from 2 gig of ram to 8gig and win won't use all of it. I have a Lenovo thinkpad running Win 7 professional x64 which had a 2 Gig stick of ram at 1600mhz. I bought 2 4 Gig sticks at 1333 mhz which on crucial.com and Lenovo websites both say the machine can handle. Win. 7 says I have 8 Gig installed but only 3.41 is usable. I've already unticked the max memory box and rebooted the computer. I called PNY support and the tech says the reason it isn't using all of it is because it is 1333 instead 1600 mhz. Could this really be the reason it can't use the extra 4.5+ Gigs?

Since it is a laptop, I'm assuming there are only 2 slots that the ram modules could have been installed, right?

Also, try loading each 4GB module separately and booting with just one (setting the other side for the moment) to isolate if there is something wrong with one of them specifically.

I took one stick out and it beeps like it isn't working. I take it out and put the other in and it works fine still showing only 3.41 usable. I put the other back in the second slot (only has 2) and it shows 8 gb and only 3.41 usable. Does that mean one of my 4 gb sticks is faulty?

Ok I put the 2 Gb back in with the working 4Gb and now it's showing 6Gb and using 5.41 Gb of RAM. I assume the little loss is from the graphics card. So do I need to take the faulty stick back to the store?

Yes, it sounds to me like there is something wrong with that one. If it's already giving you issues, you don't want to hold on to it if you don't have to. I say take it back. Some other users might have a better idea of how to test it. I know some people use "MemTest" something or other...
