Switching from Intel to AMD, questions before installation

Posting this second thread to be sure, but I wanted to know from a few people if this is possible:
Upgrading my Intel CPU+Mobo to an AMD CPU+Mobo and was wondering if;

1. Since I'm using the same HDD (that had Windows pre installed), will Win7 need new product keys/fresh install?

2. In the case that it works, will Win7 handle the driver installation?

3. If it DOESN'T work, can anyone recommend a good place to get a copy of Win7/8 at a decent price?

Sorry for asking again, about to replace the parts, so I need to know if I'll have a working OS afterwards! Thanks!

I'm assuming that this is an OEM copy of Windows. In that case you will need to purchase a new license. Windows 7 OEM licensing ties the key to the first motherboard it is installed on (Microsoft considers the motherboard to be the computer) and cannot be transferred to another. Motherboard replacement is allowed as long as it is the same make/model.

Licensing issues aside, you cannot simply take the HD out of one computer, put it in another, and expect it to work. Especially when the two platforms are so far apart. It will require a repair install at a minimum. Better is to backup your data and do a clean install.

In that case, would a repair install work properly with a new copy of Windows? (i.e. keep all my data) I really can't afford to do a clean install at the moment.

What about simply upgrading to Windows 8 entirely after swapping the CPU/Mobo? (boot an install disc)

I'd assume so, since I mainly use Steam, Office, and a few Adobe programs here and there.
Windows 8 should be able to run older programs in compatibility mode, right?
