    Neither of those.
Basic is too crippled, and Ultimate is too expensive and has too many unneeded features.

Windows 7 Home Premium. Depending on the exact specs, of course.

On that box, Ultimate is a waste of money. It offers zero performance increase over Home Premium.
  4. Thanks but I have ultimate already so I was wondering would it affect performance or make no difference ether way?
  5. This will show you the differences between versions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

All versions are based on the same core code so there is absolutely no difference in performance. Ultimate is a complete waste of money for the majority of users. Home Premium is more than adequate.

I'd even argue that Ultimate is worse than Home Premium, simply because of the extra services that may be running, sucking up resources.

Especially on an old P4 with 2GB RAM.
  7. Good point...
  8. Thanks everyone Home Premium it is then :)
