Dell XPS 8300
Windows 7
12GB ram
Video OEM GT 530
PSU 460w 7p3wv, p/n h460ad-00

I have a Dell XPS that crashes black screen when I am in large instances in WoW. I am thinking it is either GPU or PSU related and it would seem I will need to replace both . I did run the program Furmark to stress test the card and I was able to get it to crash in about 90 sec. The temp got up to 105c and I am not sure if that indicates a flaw in the card or if that program is just a monster and does that to most cards. All other dell diagnostics have passed with flying colors.

anyway looking for suggestions on PSU and GPU upgrades that would fit in this case. I am partial to Nvidia and I have a budget of about $225.

Eager to hear your suggestions, I am finding it a bit complicating trying to determine upgrades that will fit in this box.

Edit: As I look at options, I believe my motherboard has one PCIe 2.0 slot. The cards I am looking at say they are PCI Express 3.0 compliant. Can I put a pci 3.0 compliant card into a pcie 2.0 slot?

That PSU has plenty of power (32A on the 12v rails and 2 Pcie power connectors) to run a GT 530. Plenty. It's not the PSU unless it's genuinely defective. Sounds like the video card to me.

You can fit most cards into that case- I ran a 560 Ti in an XPS 8300 with the stock PSU for over a year. Not a lot of clearance but it fits.

The nVidia 750Ti won't work with the H67 mobo. Even with the updated bios of A06 (which did come out in 2011), the mobo won't recognize the card being seated. With the 8300, it's not a matter of what will fit and power requirements, you also need to take into account if the card will even work. I ran into this issue with the 750Ti and now debating on what card to actually use.

Wanted to thank those of you that provided some answers and solutions. I was a little eager to get this upgrade moving and sadly I completed the job long before most of you had a chance to respond to my initial question(s). The solution I ended up using was a GTX 660 that I picked up for about $150.00 and a Corsair RM 650 for just under $100.00. It put me a little over budget but it did all fit just fine in my box. My only issue that I can remember was with the Corsair power cables. I appeared to be short one of the cables I needed but I found another post on this site that informed me to split one of the cables and I was off and running.
