I5 4670K vs Xeon E3-1230 V3

I am asking this from a gamer's perspective but also from the perspective of a video/photo editor. My board is the GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD5H and my cooler would be the Corsair H90, could the H90 overclock well enough to make the I5 a better workhorse than the Xeon?

The xeon would probably get you better performance on your video editing as it has hyper threading and more cores means a lot with that. The 4670k though with it's overclocking ability will get you much better gaming performance. Honestly? Paying an extra 100 dollars for a 4770k would be your best bet but if you're stuck at that price point then you're going to have to pick performance in one over performance in the other.

Overclocking vs Hyper-threading essentially. Best of both worlds is the 4770k like baazing said.

If I were in your shoes and had to pick one of those two cpus I would pick the i5 4670k. If you can though get the 4770k. It's the best choice for a gamer/video editor.

i dont see the point. xeons are binned low voltage low temperature chips that work well in 24/7 high workload environments. they also have extra memory features for eec ram and can be ran in in dual or quad or more cpu setups. other than that they perform exactly the same as i5/i7s. a 4 core 4 thread 4670k at 4.4ghz will still be much faster than any task than any stock clocked 4 core 8 thread xeon chip made.

The i5-4670K is a bit better performance than Xeon 1230v3 !

As for the OC no doubt i5 is better one !
i5 have 4 cores and threats - Xeon 4 C 8 th
i5 have GPU - Xeon not - you cant build home PC with IGPU with Xeon
i5 is NOT ECC RAM - Xeon IS ECC

After all Geekbench 3 Results are pointing i5 for winner
