No Sound After Graphics Card Change

I removed my Radeon 4850 card as well as my Auzentech X-plosion audio card. I was having issues with the combo connected to my surround receiver, as pass through operation of DTS and Dolby Digital content would create momentary drop outs in sound. I installed an ASUS GTX-660 OC card with HDMI output. The problem is that there is no sound and the HDMI audio device is grayed out as if it isn't installed. Any ideas how to correct this??

I have my gaming rig connected to my home theater as well. If either the tv or the receiver is shut off the "greyed out" hdmi connection happens to me to. So, perhaps if your receiver is connected to your tv it may need to have the tv on (I know that doesn't sound like it makes any sense) as well as the receiver (of course) in order to "sense" the hdmi output properly and change from "greyed out" to colored and connectable. Hopefully this works for you too! Remember to try it with "everything" on.
I can get away with turning my tv off only AFTER I've made my connection. However, sometimes the next day after the screensaver gets going for a while it can revert to "greyed out" I'm guessing because it "sensed" that the tv connection is back off.
I'm thinking that depending on the receiver their may be a negative feedback loop that when it tells that one component is "off" to disconnect the hdmi connection? Who knows. That's my experience and it may or may not help. I hope it does! If not I hope you find a better solution that works!

Thanks,

Justin S.

I should have clarified that. My television IS my computer monitor. Do I still need to keep the Auzentech audio card even though I intend to use the HDMI output of the GeForce card passed into my Yamaha surround receiver? The whole impetus for changing cards was the fact that when I set my software to play Dolby Digital or DTS encoded content with pass through to the surround receiver (i.e., the receiver doing the decoding, not the internal software) there used to be random drop outs in sound)

Understood. Nonetheless it may still apply. Here's a visual of my actual setup which is different from yours by the fact that I have a separate pc monitor but similar enough to apply the same ideas in principle:

If you feel this still doesn't help as you've already tried what I'm recommending then sorry I couldn't be of help. Just wanted to make it clear what I'm trying to say. Just ignore the fact that I use a monitor and we basically have the same setup if you look at it without that.

I went back and re-installed the Auzentech audio card and voila! I have sound again (AND with no random dropouts when playing Dolby Digital or DTS encoded content :) ) I have NO idea why changing a graphic card should alter audio playback (aside from switching to one that supports HDMI output, all I can hear is that apparently it solved the problem
