I just put together my computer today. I boot up and I connected a keyboard but it says no keyboard connected and telling me to press F1. But how? Also, the light is showing 99.

Why isn't it asking for the OS?

Solution
We would need the make and model number of your motherboard in order to look up the '99' code in your motherboard's manual to see what that error code means.

Some gaming (high end) keyboards have poling rates that are too fast to allow operation in the BIOS. Some of those keyboards have a switch to slow them down in order to work (like mine does) and even then sometimes they still won't work (like mine won't) but the keyboard is still good to work once the OS comes up. Try using an old (cheap) keybord and see if that works. One of the BIOS options I can set is to ignore the KB/Mouse missing error on boot.
