I'm currently running an older GTX 295 and looking to upgrade. I am mostly interested in 1080p high/ultra settings gaming for now and the biggest reason I am upgrading is to achieve 7.1 audio over hdmi. I am trying to keep my budget down ($150-$350) as I am going to be building a 4k rig late this year/early next. I looked at the 750 ti but it doesn't look like it will run 1080p with ultra settings in most games, not with reasonable fps anyway. Also, will price drops be starting up soon? If so, will they be substantial enough to merit waiting a month or two? Thanks for the help!

Edit: Additional info
i7-920 2.67GHZ
DDR3 1600 12GB

The GTX 295 is on par with a 650 Ti Boost so a 750 Ti will be more of a power bill saving replacement compared to the 295

You could look towards something like an r9 270 or 270x for now, your i7 920 should do well with most single GPUs out there also

A 270 or 270x will hold you out long enough until then, if you prefer Nvidia then you could shell out a bit more for a 760 (you could spend around $300 or so for a 770 as well, but might as well save up a bit towards that big budget rig you're planning for)

Or you could buy a beastly GPU which you could transfer to your 4k rig to run in SLI or Crossfire in the near future, that'd probably make the most sense financially

The higher end GPUs should hit in a few months so it should also...

The higher end GPUs should hit in a few months so it should also depend on how long you're willing to wait for a new series, or buy a high end GPU right now
