I have some spare PC2-8500 memory and was wondering if it would work in my other computer which uses PC2-5300
will DDR2 PC2-8500 memory work in a DDR2 PC2-5300 computer

DDR2 memory controllers aren't quite as strong as their more modern DDR3 counterparts. It is much harder to get DDR2 stable at unsupported speeds. It should work at the DDR2-667 speed bin (PC2-5300) but I highly doubt that it will run stable at DD2-1066 without putting up a fight first
