New External HDD not showing up?

I just bought a Toshiba 500gb external HDD today. It worked okay when I was testing it on the store's computer. But when I got home, test it on my computer, it's not working. Not showing up on neither My Computer nor disk management. It was detected as "other device" in device manager, but does it matter? Please help, I need it to get working! Or recognized on my pc

It probably needs a driver before it can be recognized.... in the Device Manager, select the "other device" with a right click and next click on Update Driver... follow the instructions in pcsupport to install the driver and if the appropriate driver is not found in Windows XP, click the Toshiba support link and type in the External HDD model to find the driver.
