So hello! I've been looking for a laptop with 4th gen i7. I also look for a pretty slim and light one. So i found Lenovo U530, which features i7 4500U, but i don't know if it will fit my needs good. I need a really good working one, it must run without laging or freezing office 2013 and matlab scripts, photoshop and etc. So is the 4500U with 1.8-3GHz enough? Or should i get one with i7 4700MQ? Will there be a big diference in their performance? And if so, what laptop would you suggest? (max 900$ please). Thank you in advance! Cheers!

The i7 4500u series is only a dual core i7, but has hyper threading, You'd honestly be better off with an i5 quad core without hyper threading. But the 4700m is a quad core with hyper threading, and would make a huge difference compared to the 4500. as for laptops with, there are a few asus models with 4700 and come with discrete graphics as well, 15 inch light but will cost $1000-1300. Samsung has their ativ book 6 and 8. they use last years intel chips but offer just slightly small difference compared to the haswell. the book 6 has about half battery capacity as the 8, both have quad core with hyper threading, touch screen if that matters, and a disrete low quality graphics card. the book 6 you can find on sales for $800-900 and is identical to the 8 minus the battery (which you'll still get 4-6 hours on), the book 8 is $1200 has a battery that will last 6-8 hours. Which im typing this using my Samsung ativ book 8, I got mine because I needed quad core i7, discrete graphics, and great battery life, while being small and light. I tried the asus g750 gaming laptop, 17 inch, 10lb, 2-3 hours of battery. But it was to much of a desktop as in size and weight, the Samsung weighs 5 lbs, and gives me all day battery.
But also make sure which ones your looking at are a true quad core i7 4700, give or have space for a decent hhd (mine came with 1tb hhd but allowed me to swap out for a 1tb ssd, but some have 2 hard drives slots while others only use msata ssd which are really small and could very well be sottered onto the motherboard). also make sure you can upgrade the ram to at least 16gb, you might not need to now, but you might later plus it says something about the laptop your buying if it has extremely limited upgrading capabilities.

sorry didn't notice you had put price.

I'd still very much so recommend either the i5 which would perform very similar to the 4500 series and you could spend less.
Otherwise the 4700 is a most definite upgrade from the 4500. At the $900 price range, id say find the Samsung ativ book 6. Microsoft had it for $800 just days ago and still might, and I believe amazon or another site had it for $900 a few days ago as well.
It really is a beast of a laptop for that price, and its the same as the $1300 ativ book 8 except smaller battery. But you'll still get 4 hours at least out of it.

I don't think there are mobile i5 cpu's with 4 cores and no hyperthreading.

And as far as performance goes, the quad cores will be much faster. I might recommend a lenovo, mine has worked alright (a y580) and as far as dollar to performance goes, it's hard to beat. $800 for 900p, a gt 755m, and a quad core i7? Those parts alone cost nearly that much. Or go with the 15" model. The only thing I recommend is ignoring/removing the battery gauge tools, that caused me a problem or two. Anyways, whichever laptop you choose, good luck.

Microsoft store has the ativ book 6 on sale for $899. I've seen and reviewed heavily the lenevo. But battery life and heat were the things that really put me off. It does offer a 755 which might have an edge on the 8770 the Samsung has, but the ativ book 6 offers 5 hours of battery, lighter than the lenevo, great 15" screen, thin, sleek looking, while gaming for hours never gets above 65 degrees and normally hovers around 55-60. Don't ever hear the fans get loud, and doesn't scortch your lap. I'd say if you want a gaming first production second and 3 hours battery get the lenevo. If your production/work first, gaming second or third and want a lighter slimmer more portable with 5 hour battery get the Samsung.

Thank you all for spend your time here! Your answers were really helpful, what do you guys think og Lenovo IdeaPad Y410/510 ? They have a sale these days, up to 490$, so i can get let's say i7 4700MQ +1TB HDD + 24GB SSD + 8GB RAM + 1080p display for 15.6" or 1600x900 for 14" which has almost the same DPI + and last but not the least GT755M for just 829-899$.

I think that i7 4500u & i7 4600u both only have 4 mb cache. The quad core has 6 mb cache. the hing isn't shit, but it is like an quad core i3 or something. This processor would only really be good in ultra books that have the need for extremely long battery life or something. I still find it fascinating that best buy has i7 4500u in most of the models. Anyway, i would go with the Samsung one if i were u because of the quad core , graphics, the FULL HD and the battery. I was looking to replace my asus personally, and i am suffering the same predicament. If you look outside of best buy, dell has an inspiron 7000 series that might be up your Allie. But you are going to be hard pressed to find a good CPU &GPU laptop under $900. 900 pounds, maybe, but not $900. Good luck.
