I have no broadband internet connection at my home as we live in a rural area. However, I can access internet by using my mobile phone to tether my laptop and other wireless devices. The trouble is, if several family members want to share the phone's wifi hotspot, we all have to be quite close to the phone at the same time. Is there a way to extend the range? I have a powerline adapter if it would help.

If you can use your mobile phone for data, your service provider probably offers a USB data dongle you can order. Get one of those and check with them what router can work with it. Get the router, connect the other devices to the router. Should be faster and more stable than just using your phone with a regular WiFi range.

Make sure you are aware of the data usage limits on your plan, with several uses and any type of video streaming like YouTube or Netflix, you can use up all the data of a 2 gig plan in days.
