Hello thereg

This is my first post so apologies if there is mistakes or its in the wrong category.

Anyway, I am going to attempt to build my first computer. Don't worry building the PC is the least of my worries no need for help on that. Basically my issue is I want to choose the most cost effective CPU for my cause.

This is not a high budget PC but rather a [strike]150-200[/strike] (EDIT 250-300) build (ENTIRE BUILD NOT JUST FOR THE CPU. So if you guys could give me an idea on what CPU i should choose

Requirements:

I enjoy programming (Mainly C++ and PHP) so I'll need a PC which can compile code at speedy rates, and preferably not lag if one is running in the background. or if the code is relatively big (I am in no way a professional, and do no intend to make some huge beefy game with this pc, but I am pretty clued up on C++ and will hope to develop some software in the not too distant software.

Gaming, I do not intend to get heavily into PC gaming, but games like League of Legends, and Smite would need to be run with out any problems. Does not have to be run on the highest graphic settings either. Just get a steady 40-60 frames. LoL and smite are not huge consumers of CPU as far as I know so it wont need to run beefy games like titan fall or battlefield 4 just to let you know.

Browsing the web with ease, and run well without a high CPU usage when multiple tabs or open. An example is me watching a twitch stream or skype whilst programming or something?

Obvious just general speed when moving round my operating system which will probably be windows 7.

I would preferably like a quad core just because.... don't ask any questions on why its literally just because... lol.

Any processor that can run at 3.0ghz or above

compatible with DDR3 Ram, (I intend to buy 4gb two 2gb sticks)

Finally do not recommend a processor that has been in its peak and is becoming dated.

Ebay is an option btw, I don't mind buying a used one if the price will fall a bit.

P.s I have looked at two processors already, I intended to buy the AMD fx 4100 which my brother runs dayz pretty well on, but was also looking into the intel i3.

If possible recommend a motherboard along with this or just all other parts you would suggest!

You might have to think about Power Supply for your card though, whichever you have, if it's enough or not.

Don't want to fry it.

Case mobo cpu and ram for the amount you want to spend is gonna be pretty much impossible. A good NOT dated as you said cpu with matching mobo is gonna run a bit. 200 pounds in usd is about $330 am I right? What about a harddrive monitor cpu cooler power supply and operating system? You say whole system and specifically say a cpu thats not at its peak and dated but to mwtch what you are asking for at that price is impossible.

Wow building a pc is insane.

Okay was intending on getting a atx 400 watt power supply

I have a asus hd 6450 silent graphics card.

Lets push the budget up to 250-300. But the lower the better.

Os is gonna run you about $100 USD. Case $45+ USD. Harddrive depends on size you want but lets say 500gb $40+ USD. 4gb ram (which is the bare minimum and I would recommend 8gb) $45+ USD. Mouse and keyboard? Monitor depends on size but say 24 inch $175+ USD. I mean it all adds up quickly. For around $600 usd you can put together a low end pc but when you throw in you dont want any of it to be dated and for it to meet your needs realistically probably looking at $700+ usd.
