I immediately thought it was the psu. Would it be worth just going out and buying a new PSU even if i don't know for sure the PSU is the problem?
1. Make sure that there is power to the WALL outlet. Use a table lamp to check this.
2. Then ensure that the computer is directly plugged into the wall outlet - NOT to a multi-outlet power strip.
3. Now try to turn the computer ON.
After you do the above, if you notice that NO lights, and NO fans turn ON, then it is safe to conclude that the PSU has failed. At this point you may buy a 10% higher wattage replacement. The label on your present PSU will state the wattage.
Good brands of PSUs are Corsair, Seasonic, XFX, Antec, to name a few.
